Is it Worth Visiting the Leaning Tower of Pisa?

Yes and No. We were traveling from Cique Terre to Florance. The city of Pisa is on the way. This made it a perfect day tour for us. If you are not traveling by Pisa, I wouldn’t recommend it as a day trip unless seeing this tower is on your bucket list or you have a lot of extra time.

Yes: It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular tourist attraction. Go and take a selfie with the famous leaning tower. And enjoy the stunning city views from the top of the tower.

No: It is a very popular tourist attraction and can be overcrowded. The food around the tower is not that good. It is not wheelchair accessible.

How long does it take?

The journey from Florence to Pisa by train typically takes around 1 hour and 10 minutes. The average time it takes to visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa is approximately 1-2 hours.

Yes, You can buy tickets on-site or in advance on their website.

What else by the Tower?

The tower is one of three structures in the Pisa’s Cathedral Square (Piazza del Duomo), which includes the cathedral and Pisa Baptistry.

What train station is closer to the tower?

The main train station in Pisa is called “Pisa Centrale” but the “Pisa San Rossore” train station is actually closer to the Leaning Tower.

Is there luggage storage?

Yes, within walking distance of the train station is Laggage Storage.

How long does it take to walk from the train station to the tower?

About 20 minutes. We walked it. It was a nice walk!

Is there a bus?

Yes, Catch the LAM “ROSSA” Bus towards “Park Pietrasantina” and get off at the “Torre” stop. You’ll know that you’ve arrived at the stop if you can spot the gate to the Cathedral Square or Piazza dei Miracoli. You can also take buses 3 and 4 to the Tower of Pisa.

Where to buy bus tickets in Pisa?

Buy individual tickets from newsstands or ticket offices. There is a newsstand in the main ticket hall of the railway station that sells bus tickets. You can buy the ticket from the driver as well, but it will cost you more and you will need to have exact change.
