My Honest Hotel Reviews (Tokyo, Kyoto, Miyajima & Osaka) – 14 Days in Japan
Planning your Japan itinerary? These are my favorite hotels across five cities — with actual prices, reviews, and booking tips.
When planning our 14-day trip to Japan, I used Booking.com to find hotels in areas we wanted to explore. I focused on location, bed comfort, and authentic reviews, cross-checking each with TripAdvisor and Google Maps.
Before booking, I compared prices on Capital One Travel, which often showed discounted rates. Thanks to our two Capital One credit cards, I also applied $600 in travel rewards to help offset our total cost.
Below are my personal hotel reviews, what I paid, and what I’d recommend for anyone planning a similar trip.

Why I Chose It
For the price and location, this hotel can’t be beat. It’s modern, clean, and offers apartment-style rooms with kitchenettes — perfect for travelers who like a little extra space.
The staff were warm and efficient, even handling our luggage transfer to Osaka seamlessly. Breakfast was decent, but not worth getting every morning.

Would I Stay Again?
Yes. It’s the ideal blend of comfort, price, and location for Kyoto

- Great location and walkability
- Kitchenette for snacks or leftovers
- Comfortable beds and quiet rooms
Would I Stay Again?
Yes. It’s the best value stay in Osaka if you want comfort and convenience.
Hotel Nikko Kansai Airport
Location: Directly connected to Kansai International Airport
Average Range: $120 – $180 USD per night
My Rate: $154.36 USD (1 night)
Booked via: Booking.com
Why I Chose It
We had a very early flight, so staying connected to the terminal made perfect sense.
Highlights
- Attached to the airport terminal
- Quick check-in/out
- Complimentary drinks in the mini-fridge
- Dated décor, but spotless and practical
Would I Stay Again?
Yes, for the convenience. It’s ideal for early departures or late arrivals.
No, if we didn’t have to be at the airport before metro started, but only because the beds and pillows were hard.
Final Thoughts
Each hotel matched the mood of its city — from Tokyo’s art-infused skyline to Kyoto’s calm streets and Miyajima’s peaceful island vibe. Japanese hotels are known for their amenities. I will miss hotels that provide pajamas!
My standouts:
- Best Overall Experience: Hotel Miyajima Villa
- Best City Hotel: Park Hotel Tokyo
- Best Value: Oakwood Hotel Oike Kyoto
Why did you pick so many double, twin-bed category rooms?
- Japan Hotels are known for being small and have very few King-beds
- I prefer to have my own covers and extra pillows when sleeping
Japan’s hospitality shines at every level, and these stays made our 14-day trip smooth, inspiring, and unforgettable.
